Washington Capitals Place Charlie Lindgren and Ryan Leonard on Injured Reserve

The Washington Capitals have made some significant roster moves, placing goaltender Charlie Lindgren and forward Ryan Leonard on injured reserve. This decision comes ahead of their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday night. In response to these injuries, the Capitals have recalled forward Bogdan Trineyev and goaltender Clay Stevenson from Hershey of the American Hockey League.

Lindgren, who is dealing with an upper-body injury, was a late scratch in the Capitals’ game against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night. The team ultimately lost that game 4-3 in a shootout. Meanwhile, Leonard suffered a facial injury during a first-period check from Jacob Trouba and did not return to the game. According to Capitals coach Spencer Carbery, Leonard is expected to miss an extended period of time.

Impact of Injuries on the Team

The loss of Lindgren and Leonard will undoubtedly have an impact on the Capitals’ performance in the coming games. Lindgren has been a key player for the team, with a 5-3 record and a 3.11 goals-against average in his 10th NHL season and fifth with Washington. As for Leonard, the rookie has been impressive, scoring seven goals and 11 assists, including two goals and two assists in the Capitals’ 7-1 win over the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night.

Carbery provided some insight into the extent of Lindgren’s injury, stating that he will miss at least seven days before being reevaluated. “We’ll see once he gets back on the ice,” Carbery said. “But [we] put him on the IR, so he’s going to miss, what is it, seven days at the bare minimum. And then we’ll see just how he progresses.”

Roster Moves and Future Games

The recall of Trineyev and Stevenson from Hershey of the American Hockey League is expected to provide some much-needed depth to the Capitals’ roster. As the team prepares to face the Columbus Blue Jackets, they will be looking to these new additions to make a positive impact on the game. With the injuries to Lindgren and Leonard, the Capitals will need to rely on their other players to step up and fill the gaps.

As the NHL season continues, the Washington Capitals will be looking to bounce back from their recent loss and make a strong push for the playoffs. With a talented roster and a strong team dynamic, they have the potential to make a deep run in the postseason. However, the injuries to Lindgren and Leonard will undoubtedly provide a challenge for the team to overcome.
