Cincinnati Bengals’ Cody Ford Steals the Show with Unforgettable Touchdown Catch

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Bengals’ 37-14 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday was a memorable one, but it was a single play that stole the show and left the crowd in awe. Offensive lineman Cody Ford, a 6-foot-3, 345-pound giant, caught a 21-yard reception late in the third quarter, sending the stadium into a frenzy.

The play, which was practiced earlier in the week, featured Ford splitting out as a wide receiver, catching the pass from quarterback Joe Burrow, and rumbling through tacklers to finish the play just a few yards away from the goal line. The crowd erupted in cheers, chanting Ford’s name, a moment he described as a “dream come true.” According to ESPN, this was the first time in Ford’s life that he had heard an entire venue chanting his name.

A Play to Remember

Bengals coach Zac Taylor unveiled the play, which was designed to feature Ford as an extra offensive lineman, after tight end Noah Fant was listed as questionable with an ankle injury. Taylor said the team had practiced several formations with Ford in this role, and since Ford had caught the play in practice, he decided to try it out against the Cardinals. As reported by NFL.com, the play was a huge success, with Ford’s catch being the highlight of the game.

Quarterback Joe Burrow initially intended to throw to wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, but with Chase covered, he went through his reads and spotted Ford. Burrow said he had thrown the ball to Ford in practice earlier in the week as a joke, but this time, it was for real. “I threw it to him early in the week in practice as a joke,” Burrow said, “but this time, I couldn’t believe what I was watching.” According to Cincinnati.com, the play was a testament to the team’s creativity and ability to think outside the box.

A Moment to Cherish

When Ford was subbed off the field, the crowd booed, realizing he wouldn’t get another touch on the drive. However, Ford didn’t mind, as he was still basking in the glory of his unforgettable catch. After the game, a group of fans wearing No. 61 Ford jerseys took photos with him near the spot on the field where the catch occurred. As Bengals.com reported, the moment was a special one for Ford, who said it would stay with him “for a long time, if not forever.”

The game may not have had any significant playoff implications, but the moment Ford caught that pass, it became a memorable one for the Bengals and their fans. As ProFootballTalk noted, the play was a reminder that even in a game with no playoff stakes, there can still be moments of pure joy and excitement. The Bengals’ win marked their second straight victory, and while it may not have changed their playoff fortunes, it gave them a much-needed boost of momentum heading into the offseason.
