Alek Manoah Signs with Los Angeles Angels: A New Chapter for the Former Cy Young Contender

The Los Angeles Angels have announced that they have reached an agreement with right-hander Alek Manoah on a one-year deal, as reported on Tuesday. According to a source, the deal is worth $1.95 million and is fully guaranteed, as confirmed by ESPN’s Jeff Passan. This move marks a new chapter in Manoah’s career, who was previously non-tendered by the Atlanta Braves last month.

Alek Manoah Signs with Los Angeles Angels: A New Chapter for the Former Cy Young ContenderA Fresh Start with the Angels

Manoah, 27, has had a tumultuous career trajectory since his impressive 2022 season with the Toronto Blue Jays, where he went 16-7 with a 2.24 ERA. However, his performance declined significantly in 2023, resulting in a demotion to rookie league after starting the season 1-7 with a 6.36 ERA. Despite rejoining the Jays’ big league roster in July and posting a 2-2 record with a 4.91 ERA in seven starts, Manoah was optioned to Triple-A in August and did not pitch again at any level.

A Fresh Start with the Angels

In 2024, Manoah underwent season-ending surgery on his elbow after making just five starts with a 1-2 record and a 3.70 ERA. Following his rehabilitation with Triple-A Buffalo, the Blue Jays ultimately cut ties with Manoah shortly before the playoffs. During his time with the Bisons, Manoah went 1-1 with a 2.97 ERA in seven starts, allowing 27 hits, including six home runs. The Associated Press contributed to this report, highlighting the complexities of Manoah’s journey.

As Manoah embarks on this new chapter with the Los Angeles Angels, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if he can recapture the form that once made him a Cy Young contender. With a fully guaranteed deal in place, Manoah has the opportunity to prove himself and contribute to the Angels’ roster. As the baseball world continues to evolve, one thing is certain – Alek Manoah’s story is far from over.
