Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson Set to Clash in 140-Pound Showdown

Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson will meet in a highly anticipated 140-pound clash on January 31 in New York, as announced by Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority and owner of Ring Magazine. This exciting matchup will feature two of boxing’s brightest young talents, with Lopez putting his WBO and Ring welterweight titles on the line against Stevenson, who will be making his debut at junior welterweight.

The event, which will be streamed on DAZN, is set to headline “The Ring 6” and promises to be an electrifying start to the 2026 boxing calendar. While a venue has yet to be announced, fans are eagerly anticipating the battle between these two skilled fighters.

A Battle of Unbeaten Records and Territorial Pride

Stevenson, a three-division world champion from Newark, New Jersey, is looking to add a championship in a fourth weight class to his impressive resume. His last outing in July saw him successfully defend the WBC lightweight title against previously unbeaten William Zepeda. Stevenson, 28, is confident in his abilities, stating, “I have never shied away from a challenge and always chased the biggest fights in the sport because I know I am one of the best boxers in the world. Teofimo Lopez will learn that firsthand on January 31 when I take his belt and show him that there are levels to this game.”

Meanwhile, Brooklyn’s Lopez, also 28, aims to defend his titles for the fourth time since winning them with a wide decision over Josh Taylor in 2023. He easily outpointed Arnold Barboza Jr. in May at Times Square in New York. For Lopez, this fight is not only about defending his titles but also about territorial pride, as he faces off against a fighter from neighboring New Jersey. Lopez boldly declared, “Duck, Duck, Goose! Are you ready for New York City? Brick city in the concrete jungle, so let’s get ready to rumble! The Takeover is here to stay, not play. Make Boxing Great Again is my forte. Shakur will fall in nine.”

Expert Insights and Anticipation

According to Alalshikh, “This fight between two huge talents will provide an exciting start to our plans for 2026 and as we look to create another great year of boxing events around the world. We are looking forward to returning to New York in January and producing another big world title fight that fans have been waiting for.” With both fighters boasting impressive records and a strong desire to prove themselves as the best, this matchup is set to be an unforgettable clash of skills and determination.
