Max Verstappen’s Team Disqualified from Nurburgring Langstrecken-Serie Event
Max Verstappen’s team was disqualified from the Nurburgring Langstrecken-Serie’s four-hour ADAC Barbarossapreis event after it was discovered that they had used seven sets of tires instead of the permitted six. Verstappen, who was competing alongside teammates Dani Juncadella and Jules Gounon for Verstappen Racing, had initially thought he had won the event in their Mercedes-AMG GT3.
The disqualification was a blow to Verstappen, who had taken pole position for the event and had won by over a minute on the road. However, the technical commission’s discovery of the tire infringement meant that the win was handed to Dan Harper and Jordan Pepper in the BMW M4 GT3 from Rowe Racing. This incident has sparked interest in Verstappen’s participation in other racing events outside of Formula 1, particularly in the upcoming Nurburgring 24 Hours in May.
Verstappen’s Growing Frustration with F1
Verstappen has been a vocal critic of F1’s new cars, which he has branded “Formula E on steroids” due to their emphasis on battery harvesting and boosts. After the Chinese Grand Prix, he labelled the new cars “a joke” and stated that anyone enjoying the sport’s new battery-boosted overtakes does not understand real racing. This growing frustration with F1 has led to speculation about his future in the sport, with Verstappen having made no secret of his desire to explore other types of racing.
Verstappen’s participation in the Nurburgring Langstrecken-Serie event was seen as a welcome distraction from his F1 commitments. He has also expressed his desire to take part in the Le Mans 24 Hours, one of the most famous endurance races in the world. With his contract with Red Bull until 2028, it remains to be seen whether Verstappen will continue to prioritize F1 or pursue other racing interests.
The Nurburgring 24 Hours: A Legendary Event
The Nurburgring 24 Hours, which will take place on May 16 and 17, is one of the most prestigious endurance races in the world. The event, which is held at the iconic Nurburgring circuit in Germany, has earned legendary status since it first opened in 1927. Verstappen will partner with Juncadella, Gounon, and Lucas Auer at the event, which will be a significant test of his endurance racing skills.
The Nurburgring circuit, nicknamed “The Green Hell,” has a reputation for being one of the most challenging and demanding tracks in the world. Its unique layout and challenging conditions make it a true test of driver skill and endurance. Verstappen’s participation in the event will be closely watched, particularly given his growing frustration with F1 and his desire to explore other racing interests.
According to the official Nurburgring website, the 24 Hours event has a long history of attracting top drivers and teams from around the world. The event has been held annually since 1970 and has become a major highlight of the motorsport calendar.
