Carlos Alcaraz Expresses Confidence in New Coaching Team Ahead of Australian Open

As the tennis world gears up for the Australian Open, Carlos Alcaraz has spoken out about his recent split from long-term coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, expressing full confidence in his new team. The 22-year-old Spanish tennis star parted ways with Ferrero, who had guided him since he was 15, due to a contractual dispute. Alcaraz is now solely coached by Samuel López, who had previously been his secondary coach.

At his first news conference of the new season, Alcaraz refused to go into details about the split, stating, “With Juan Carlos, we decide to do it. I’m just having plenty of confidence in the team that I have right now. The practices have gone really well. I’m just feeling well. So I’m just excited about the tournament to begin with the team that I have right now.” He also expressed gratitude for the seven years he spent with Ferrero, acknowledging that he learned a lot from him and that their time together helped shape him into the player he is today.

Despite the change in his coaching team, Alcaraz’s goals for the season remain unchanged. He has set his sights on winning the Australian Open, a title that would make him the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam of all four major crowns. “I think this is my main goal for this year,” Alcaraz said. “I’m just hungry for the title, hungry to do a really good result here.” However, he will face stiff competition from his great rival, Jannik Sinner, the two-time defending champion.

The rivalry between Alcaraz and Sinner has been one of the most exciting storylines in tennis over the past year. Sinner’s loss to Alcaraz at the US Open prompted him to re-evaluate his game, and he has been working on adding more variety to his playing style. “We worked a lot on trying to make the transition to the net,” Sinner said. “The serve we change a couple of things. But all small details. When you are at the top level, there are the small details that make the difference.”

As the Australian Open gets underway, all eyes will be on Alcaraz and Sinner to see how their rivalry plays out. With Alcaraz’s new coaching team and Sinner’s renewed focus on his game, this tournament is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in recent memory.
