Martin Brundle Backs Ferrari’s Decision to Change Lewis Hamilton’s Race Engineer

Martin Brundle, a former F1 driver and current Sky Sports F1 pundit, has expressed his support for Ferrari’s decision to replace Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer, Riccardo Adami. The change comes after a tumultuous first season for Hamilton with Ferrari in 2025, marked by several disagreements between the driver and his engineer. According to Brundle, “something needed to change” in order for Hamilton to succeed with the team.

Hamilton’s first season with Ferrari was a challenging one, with the driver finishing sixth in the championship and failing to secure a single podium finish. Brundle believes that the lack of chemistry between Hamilton and Adami was a significant factor in the team’s struggles. “Lewis needs to go there with a team so that at least they understand ‘Lewis speak’ when he’s inside the car, what it all means, and to interpret what Lewis really needs behind the wheel,” Brundle explained.

A New Era for Hamilton and Ferrari

With Adami’s departure, Hamilton is set to work with a new engineer in the 2026 season. Although a replacement has not been officially announced, Hamilton is scheduled to take his first laps in the 2026 Ferrari car during a private preseason test in Barcelona next week. The test will provide an opportunity for Hamilton to get accustomed to the new car and work with his new engineer, who will play a crucial role in helping him achieve success with the team.

Ferrari is expected to launch its 2026 car on Friday, ahead of the first behind-closed-doors test. The team will then participate in two three-day tests in Bahrain before the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on March 8. Hamilton will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing first season with Ferrari and challenge for the championship title.

Expert Analysis and Reactions

Brundle’s comments reflect the sentiments of many F1 experts, who believe that the change in Hamilton’s engineering team is a necessary step towards success. With the new season just around the corner, all eyes will be on Hamilton and Ferrari as they look to challenge for the championship title. As Brundle noted, “I’m surprised it probably didn’t happen a bit earlier, really, judging by all the things that were going on last year.” The coming weeks and months will be crucial in determining the fate of Hamilton and Ferrari’s 2026 season.
