Demetrious Johnson Predicts Umar Nurmagomedov’s Victory Over Deiveson Figueiredo
Demetrious Johnson, the former two-time UFC flyweight champion, has shared his thoughts on the upcoming bout between Umar Nurmagomedov and Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 324. Both fighters are vying for a shot at the bantamweight title, with Umar looking to take on current champion Petr Yan if he emerges victorious, and Figueiredo seeking a rematch against Yan.
Johnson, who has won four out of six bouts since moving up to bantamweight, believes that the fight between Umar and Figueiredo will be a grappling-heavy affair. He predicts that Umar will take Figueiredo down and control him, ultimately emerging victorious. On the Jaxxon Podcast, Johnson stated, “So the fight between Umar and Figgy is gonna come down to the grappling. Umar is gonna take him down, it’s gotta be a grappling exchange. Figgy is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu… If I have to pick one, I am gonna pick Umar Nurmagomedov.”
Umar Nurmagomedov’s Strengths and Weaknesses
Umar Nurmagomedov has an impressive record, with only one loss in his MMA career, which came against Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 311. However, he broke his hand during that bout and has since made a successful comeback, defeating Mario Bautista via unanimous decision at UFC 321. Johnson noted that many Dagestani fighters, including Umar, often overtrain, which can lead to gassing out during fights. He commented, “Those guys train so hard….The only reason those guys lose is because they gas out from overtraining.”
This is a concern that has been raised before, as some Dagestani fighters, such as Said Nurmagomedov, have shown noticeable issues with endurance in their previous fights. However, others, like Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov, have demonstrated elite endurance and conditioning.
Deiveson Figueiredo’s Chances
Deiveson Figueiredo, a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, will undoubtedly provide a tough test for Umar Nurmagomedov. Figueiredo has a strong grappling background and will look to use his skills to counter Umar’s wrestling and submission attempts. However, Johnson believes that Umar’s grappling skills will ultimately give him the edge he needs to win the fight.
The bout between Umar Nurmagomedov and Deiveson Figueiredo promises to be an exciting and closely contested affair, with both fighters looking to take a step closer to the bantamweight title. With their eyes on the prize, they will undoubtedly leave everything they have in the Octagon, making for a thrilling matchup for fans to enjoy.
As the fight approaches, fans and pundits alike will be eagerly awaiting the outcome, and Demetrious Johnson’s prediction will certainly add to the excitement and anticipation surrounding the event. Will Umar Nurmagomedov emerge victorious, or will Deiveson Figueiredo prove Johnson wrong? Only time will tell.
