Emery Denies Snubbing Arteta
After the match, Aston Villa manager Unai Emery was quick to dismiss claims that he had snubbed Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta by not shaking hands. Emery explained that his routine after a match is to quickly shake hands and then head to the dressing room with his coaches and players. He stated that he was waiting for Arteta but decided to head inside as he was happy and celebrating with his coaches.
When asked about the incident, Arteta played down the situation, saying it was “part of the game” and “not an issue at all.” Emery also mentioned that he couldn’t wait due to the cold weather. This is not the first time Emery has been accused of not shaking hands with Arteta, as a similar incident occurred in December 2023.
Emery Reflects on the Match
Despite the defeat, Emery took encouragement from his team’s performance, particularly in the first half. Villa had created several chances and defended well, but the tide turned in Arsenal’s favor after the break. Emery attributed the loss to the conceded goals and the injury to Amadou Onana, which affected the team’s momentum.
Aston Villa will look to bounce back from this defeat when they host Nottingham Forest at Villa Park on Saturday. With the Premier League season heating up, Villa will need to regroup and refocus to stay in contention for a top spot.
