Griffin, a seven-year NFL veteran, took to social media to declare his intention to go for gold with the USA National Team in 2028. “Proud and Honored to announce that I will be going for Gold in Flag Football with the USA National Team in 2028,” he posted on his X account. “The journey starts now and there is no greater honor than wearing USA across your chest and representing something more than yourself.” Griffin’s last NFL appearance was in 2021 with the Baltimore Ravens, but he has a notable career record, throwing for 9,271 yards and 43 touchdowns in 56 games.

Joe Burrow’s Aspirations

Meanwhile, Joe Burrow, the 2019 Heisman Trophy winner, has also been vocal about his desire to represent the US in the 2028 Olympics. At the Fanatics Flag Football Classic in Los Angeles, Burrow spoke about his enthusiasm for the opportunity. “When this got announced, I was pretty excited about it,” he said during a panel discussion. “The opportunity to win a gold medal, I’ve thought about a moment like that for a long time, since I was a kid. I think it would be something very special.” Burrow demonstrated his skills at the event, leading his Wildcats FFC team to a 34-26 win over Tom Brady’s Founders FFC in round-robin play.

Despite dealing with injuries in the past, Burrow showed no signs of holding back, accounting for multiple touchdowns in the game. His performance has made a strong case for his selection as the Team USA quarterback. However, with Griffin now in the mix, the competition is set to intensify.

A Growing Field of Contenders

As the Olympic Games approach, more quarterbacks may join the fray, seeking to represent the US in flag football. The addition of Griffin to the list of potential candidates highlights the growing interest in the sport and the prestige of competing at the Olympic level. For now, both Burrow and Griffin have expressed their eagerness to lead the team, and their passion for the sport is evident. As the road to the 2028 Olympics unfolds, fans can expect an exciting and unpredictable journey, with the best of American football talent on full display.

According to the USA Football website, the organization is committed to developing and promoting the sport, providing opportunities for players to compete at the highest level.
