Khamzat Chimaev’s Unique Approach to Humility

Newly minted UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev recently revealed a surprising method he had considered to keep his ego in check after achieving fame and wealth. In a candid interview, Chimaev disclosed that he wanted to install a traditional Chechen grave, known as a churt, in his home as a daily reminder of the impermanence of life and the fleeting nature of fame and fortune.

A churt is a traditional Chechen grave that serves as a symbol of the transience of human life. Chimaev’s desire to have one installed in his home was motivated by his desire to stay humble and grounded despite his newfound success. As he explained, “It all lasts for a very short time.” This sentiment is echoed in his statement, “A champion, not a champion, rich, poor, I will die soon anyway.”

Brother’s Intervention

However, Chimaev’s elder brother intervened, disallowing the installation of the churt in their home. This decision may have been motivated by a desire to protect Chimaev from becoming overly fixated on mortality, or perhaps to maintain a more positive and uplifting environment in their home. Regardless of the reason, Chimaev’s brother played a significant role in shaping the champion’s perspective on fame, wealth, and the human experience.

Chimaev’s comments on the matter offer valuable insight into his mindset and values. He stated, “So this fear of death and meeting the almighty keeps you real and humble inside. You remain human despite everything that happens around you. You can be the king of the world if you believe in God and will remain real and human.” These words demonstrate Chimaev’s commitment to staying grounded and humble, even in the face of great success and adoration.

Upcoming Plans

Currently, Chimaev is dealing with a minor foot injury that will require surgery. He is expected to make a full recovery and return to the octagon after Ramadan 2026 to defend his title, potentially against Nassourdine Imavov. As he prepares for his upcoming fight, Chimaev’s unique approach to humility and his commitment to staying grounded will undoubtedly serve as a source of inspiration for his fans and fellow athletes alike.
