LIV Golf Secures Multi-Year Extension with Dustin Johnson

LIV Golf has announced a significant signing, securing a multi-year extension with two-time major champion Dustin Johnson. Johnson, who has won the 2016 U.S. Open and 2020 Masters, will continue to lead the 4Aces GC team. This move is a major coup for LIV Golf, as Johnson is one of the most successful golfers to have made the switch from the PGA Tour.

Johnson expressed his excitement about the upcoming season, citing new venues and the opportunity to play in front of fans in different parts of the world. “I’m obviously very excited about this year,” he said during a news conference in Palm Beach, Florida. “I think we’re going to a couple new venues, and that’s exciting. Obviously, anytime we’re going to a new place, especially all the things I’m hearing about South Africa, it’s supposed to be amazing. We’ve got a ton of fans.” This enthusiasm is a testament to the growing popularity of LIV Golf and its ability to attract top talent.

Thomas Detry Joins 4Aces GC

LIV Golf also announced the addition of Thomas Detry, a former PGA Tour and DP World Tour member, to the 4Aces GC team. Detry, who is currently ranked 58th in the Official World Golf Ranking, made history last season by becoming the first golfer from Belgium to win on the PGA Tour. Johnson praised Detry’s skills, saying, “I think he’s a really good player. I’ve played with him a few times before over the years, and then obviously got to spend a lot of time with him the last three or four days. [I] really like the kid. He’s a good player, very talented.” This addition strengthens the 4Aces GC team and demonstrates LIV Golf’s commitment to attracting top talent.

Other notable players returning to the 4Aces GC team include Patrick Reed, the 2018 Masters champion, and former Ryder Cup player Thomas Pieters. Johnson, who was among the first wave of PGA Tour members to join LIV Golf, has been a key figure in the league’s development. He was the first season-long individual champion in 2022 and has finished 14th in individual points over the past two seasons.

Johnson’s Career and LIV Golf’s Impact

Johnson, 41, has had a storied career, with 29 wins on the PGA Tour. However, his decision to join LIV Golf has affected his world ranking, as he is no longer receiving world-ranking points for his finishes. As a result, he has fallen to 636th in the world. Despite this, Johnson remains a major force in the golf world, and his commitment to LIV Golf is a significant boost to the league. According to the LIV Golf website, the league is committed to “creating a new and innovative format for professional golf,” and Johnson’s involvement is a key part of this effort.

Kevin Na, a five-time winner on the PGA Tour, has left the LIV Golf League, and his team, the Iron Heads GC, has been rebranded as the Korean Golf Club. Former PGA Tour player Ben An is taking over as captain, according to sources. This change reflects the ongoing evolution of LIV Golf and its teams, as the league continues to grow and attract new talent.
