Endrick Confident in European Success After Spurning South American Offers

As of January 12, 2026, Brazilian striker Endrick has expressed his confidence in gaining playing time and achieving success in Europe. Despite receiving offers to return to South America, the 19-year-old has opted to stay in Europe, citing his desire to play in the biggest and best leagues. In an interview with ESPN Brasil, Endrick stated, “Some Brazilian clubs have asked if I would like to return, but it’s not the time to think about that. I want to play in the biggest and best leagues. I have to stay in Europe to do that.”

Endrick’s decision to stay in Europe comes after he joined Lyon on loan from Real Madrid last month. The young striker had made only three appearances in all competitions for Los Blancos this season, prompting his move to the French club. Endrick’s experience in Europe began when he moved to Real Madrid from Palmeiras in July 2024, at the age of 18. He made 22 league appearances in his first season in Spain, scoring goals in all competitions.

Advice from Coaching Staff

Endrick revealed that he took the advice of Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso when deciding to leave Madrid in this transfer window. According to Endrick, Ancelotti and Alonso emphasized the importance of getting more playing time at a big club, stating, “He [Ancelotti] and Xabi talked to me a lot about the importance of getting more playing time at a big club. About how important it is for younger players to always be on the pitch after arriving in Europe.”

Endrick, who struggled with a recurring hamstring injury earlier this season, claims to be fully fit now. He is eager to play regularly and give himself a chance of making Brazil’s World Cup squad. In his debut with Lyon on Sunday, Endrick played 72 minutes and scored the winner in a 2-1 win against Lille in the Coupe de France, showcasing his potential for success in Europe.

Future Prospects

With his move to Lyon, Endrick hopes to increase his chances of being called up to the Brazilian national team for the World Cup. He stated, “Hopefully, we can talk about the World Cup. I’ll work hard for Lyon to win a title, and if I’m blessed with great games here, my chances of being called up will increase.” As Endrick continues to develop his skills and gain playing time in Europe, he is likely to become a key player for both Lyon and the Brazilian national team.
