Carolina Panthers Release Hunter Renfrow, Activate David Moore Ahead of NFC Wild-Card Game
The Carolina Panthers have made a significant roster move, releasing wide receiver Hunter Renfrow to make room for David Moore, who has been activated from the reserve/injured list. This decision comes just in time for the team’s upcoming NFC wild-card game against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday.
Renfrow, a 30-year-old former Clemson star, was attempting to make a comeback with the Panthers after missing the 2024 season due to ulcerative colitis, an autoimmune condition. Despite his efforts, he was cut at the end of training camp but re-signed to the active roster in August after Jalen Coker suffered a quad injury. Renfrow had two touchdown catches in a Week 2 loss to the Arizona Cardinals but has been inactive since an Oct. 12 win against the Dallas Cowboys.
According to ESPN, Moore has been dealing with an elbow injury sustained in Week 4 and has only had one catch for 5 yards in the first four games. However, he is considered a locker room leader and is expected to see playing time behind Tetairoa McMillan and a now-healthy Coker. With 2024 first-round pick Xavier Legette struggling, Moore may have an opportunity to make an impact. Legette played a career-low 31% of the snaps in Saturday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Impact on the Team
The release of Renfrow and activation of Moore may signal a shift in the Panthers’ strategy ahead of the wild-card game. With Moore’s experience and leadership, the team may be looking to bolster their receiving corps and provide a spark on offense. Additionally, the waiver of safety Demani Richardson may indicate that the Panthers are looking to make further adjustments to their roster.
As the Panthers prepare to face the Rams, they will be looking to capitalize on any advantage they can get. With the activation of Moore and the release of Renfrow, the team is clearly looking to make a statement and make a deep run in the playoffs. Fans will be watching closely to see how these roster moves pay off on the field.
