Introduction to Rose Namajunas’ Ambitions

Rose Namajunas, the former two-time UFC women’s strawweight champion, has been making waves in the mixed martial arts world with her recent revelations about her career goals. In a recent interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, Namajunas expressed her desire to achieve two-division glory, comparing it to reaching the coveted Super Saiyan Level 2 in the popular anime series Dragon Ball Z.

Rose Namajunas’ Career Background

Namajunas, also known as “Thug,” began her career in the flyweight division before moving down to strawweight, where she won two championship titles. In 2023, she decided to move back up to the flyweight division, where she faced Manon Fiorot and lost by unanimous decision. However, she bounced back with consecutive wins against Amanda Ribas and Tracy Cortez, only to lose to Erin Blanchfield in November 2024. In June last year, Namajunas secured a unanimous decision win against Miranda Maverick.

Upcoming Fight at UFC 324

This week, Namajunas is set to face Natalia Silva, the number two-ranked UFC women’s flyweight contender, at UFC 324. The fight was originally supposed to be against former champion Alexa Grasso, but Grasso withdrew due to injury. Silva, who is undefeated in the UFC with a 7-0 record, is tipped to be the next challenger for the reigning champion.

Rose Namajunas’ Motivation for Two-Division Glory

In her interview with Ariel Helwani, Namajunas cited money as a motivating factor but emphasized that becoming a two-division champion has been a lifelong objective. She drew a parallel between achieving this goal and reaching Super Saiyan Level 2, a reference to the Dragon Ball Z series. According to Namajunas, becoming a champion in one division is akin to reaching Super Saiyan level 1, a remarkable achievement that cannot be taken away. However, becoming a champion in a second division would be equivalent to reaching Super Saiyan level 2, a feat that sets her above others in terms of greatness.

Comparison to Super Saiyan Level 2

Namajunas explained that just as Super Saiyan level 1 is an impressive achievement, becoming a champion in a second weight class is like taking it to the next level. She stated, “For what I did at strawweight, I’m very happy with… Now at flyweight, where I actually started my career, it’s like, why not finish there? Becoming a champion there would be like getting to Super Saiyan level 2… Everything’s just bigger at the next weight class; you’ve got to do everything better and bigger and stronger. [That’s why the two-division thing is important to me. It just sets you above].” Check out Rose Namajunas’ comments below (6:40):

Conclusion

Rose Namajunas’ desire for two-division glory is not just about personal achievement but also about leaving a lasting legacy in the world of mixed martial arts. With her upcoming fight against Natalia Silva at UFC 324, Namajunas has the opportunity to take a significant step towards realizing her goal. As she continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in the UFC, fans and enthusiasts alike will be watching with bated breath to see if she can achieve the coveted status of a two-division champion.
