Nikita Tszyu Claims He Was Robbed of Proving His Worth in Boxing
Nikita Tszyu has expressed his disappointment and frustration after his highly anticipated fight against Michael Zerafa ended in a no contest due to an accidental head clash. Tszyu believes that Zerafa should consider retiring from the sport, citing that he doesn’t think Zerafa is mentally prepared for the demands of boxing anymore.
Tszyu made these comments during a press conference in Sydney, where he also shared his thoughts on the fight’s outcome. “There was a small option of an escape and he took it,” Tszyu said, implying that Zerafa was looking for a way out of the fight. Tszyu also questioned the severity of Zerafa’s injury, stating that he saw Zerafa in the change rooms after the fight and his eye looked fine.
The Fight’s Controversial Ending
The fight between Tszyu and Zerafa was declared a no contest after Zerafa suffered a cut eye in an accidental head clash. Zerafa was heard complaining that he couldn’t see, and later revealed that he had suffered a fractured eye socket. However, Tszyu is skeptical about the extent of Zerafa’s injury, saying that “a fractured eye socket, that puffs up instantly and his eye was good for a while.”

Tszyu described the result as “a big let-down” and felt that he was robbed of the opportunity to prove himself in the boxing world. “I do. In, like, a very shameful way,” Tszyu said when asked if he felt robbed. “A lot of work went into that and it was just taken away. It was the biggest opportunity for me to really show myself, prove myself to the world.”
Future Plans and Zerafa’s Retirement
Despite the disappointing outcome, Tszyu is focused on moving forward and improving his world ranking to eventually secure a world title. “We’re just planning on moving forward, getting that world ranking higher and higher to get that inevitable world title in the end,” he said. However, Tszyu believes that Zerafa should consider hanging up his gloves, saying that “he has had a great career, he has done a lot in the sport… but I just don’t think he’s mentally there anymore – and it’s nothing to be ashamed of, it just happens.”
Tszyu’s comments have sparked a debate about the future of Zerafa’s boxing career, with some agreeing that it’s time for him to retire, while others believe that he still has what it takes to compete at a high level. As for Tszyu, he remains focused on his own goals and is determined to prove himself as a top contender in the boxing world.
